Australian Factions purchasing problems
Hi Follow Guildwars Players
I am posting something I emailed to Guildwars Marketing/HR today and would like your opinions on it please as thier reply email suggested I post it on one of their forums as this would be the best place for it to receive comments about it. Sorry about it being so long but please read it all and post your comments about what you think of it and also dont forget to vote on the poll at the top of this post. I am really interested to see if alot of other Aussies had similar issies. Thanks .................................................. .................................................. ..... Dear Sir/Madam, I hope I am sending this to the right place ??? but I want to report a problem I had with buying ???Guildwars Factions??? at the time of its release, and noticing the pending release of the new "Nightfall" campaign prompted me to write this email. In Australia there was major confusion with ???EB Games??? stores as to when they were getting the CD???s into their stores and also there seems to be no-one there that could tell me much about the release or when the disks would be available in-store. This to me was very poor service on their part as I knew more of what was going on from the Guildwars website than what they could tell me and this was very disappointing to say the least. I was not contacted after leaving my details with them as I requested and as it was, if Guildwars had not of extended the preview longer (which was to cover for the late release of the collectors edition) to the length of time they did I would not of been able to play after the first 2 days even though I had already paid for my standard edition which had not arrived at ???EB Games??? yet. All I had was the pre-order disk which ???EB Games??? not only didn???t have in-store the day that Guildwars website said they would be, they also didn???t have enough of them either as some of my friends found out when they went to get theirs so that meant that even though they had the original version of ???Guildwars??? and had paid for their pre-order and also paid for ???Factions??? they still couldn???t play after the first couple of days of the servers opening. I love the Guildwars game and even have 2 accounts so I had to buy 2 copies of ???Factions??? (one was collectors and one standard). I have been playing it since June 2005 and was very excited about getting ???Factions??? as soon as the servers were open and even though I took all the precautions that I could, I was just lucky that I was able to continue playing after the first 2 days. Also this is just the standard copy I am referring to, not the collector???s edition (that???s a whole other story). I do hope you read all of this and take it into consideration when releasing "Nightfall" in Australia as "EB Games" was at the time of "Factions" release the only available out-let to purchase it from. This was also not a one-off incident as all of my Guildmates (around 8 of us) are locals and live in the same city as myself and we all had the same troubles getting the CD's on time, and I am sure this was not just a isolated area as I also rang head-office of "EB Games" and they also was unable to give me any more details than supplied from the local store (Which I might add was contrary to what was published on the Guildwars website). I believe that Guildwars is a great game and is developed brilliantly but it seems that the retail end of the business is sadly lacking in Australia at least. I hope this email gives you time to rectify the problems that I (and other follow Australians) had with getting "Factions" and look forward to playing "Nightfall" hassle free of the purchasing issues of "Factions". If you would like more details on exactly which stores and where, please feel free to email me at the email address provided, as I would gladly give any help I could to save myself and others going through the previous problems again. I usually don???t bother to write and complain but I felt the need to say something as I feel that ???EB Games??? in Australia is letting down the tremendous time and effort that has been done by everyone else working on this marvelous game. Thanks for taking the time to read this email and sorry for it being so long. Last edited by Viper1769; Jul 27, 2006 at 07:06 PM // 19:06.. |

I think it must be your local EB, because mine was very helpful, I phoned up, placed an order and walked in to pick up my CE on the day after launch. Head Office wouldn't be able to tell you much either, because it all depends on the individual store policies.
I live on the Gold Coast, Queensland and my EB has always been very helpful. |

my local EB stores hav been really helpful. they know exactly when a game is comin out, they rang me to remind me when to collect a game i pre-ordered once. i live in sydney and most of the EB's i visit are usually packed with ppl so pre-ordering things is usually the way to go where i live.

Rockhampton, Qld here, I had alot of trouble as well at my store, i went in to get my pre-ordered CE and was told it would take another two weeks until I can get a collectors edition. I thought this was poor service considering I was required to put a deposit down 6 weeks before hand, and the only answer i basically got was "the only way you'll be playing today is if you buy a standard edition". I dont own two accounts so buying a standard edition would defeat the purpose of laying money out in advance to have the CE, wouldnt it? I was also never given a copy of the pre order disk as they had run out and would call me when more arrived, I was never notified therefore i still dont have one, not that theres any point in having it now.

I live in Victoria and had alot of problems getting the prophercies game from EB games southland. Eventually after 3 weeks of them screwing me around , claiming at one time that the reason for the delay of the game being shipped from their Brisbane head office could be that the game is no longer being produced anymore. I gave up and bought my copy through the Amazon online store.
I have no confidence in Eb games and will in future be buying all my products thru the online Amazon store. Sadly those who don't have a credit card can't use this option. I hope EB games in Victoria at least sort out their sales of these titles. |
